Who: Nene Yashiro, Nagito Komaeda, Rio Ranger
What: just a nice chat :)
When: mid-january
Where: crafts room
Warnings: probably none, but will edit if needed
( if it's ever been discussed, nene's not aware of it- the tally marks and the ability to remove them, that is. but she's one of the people with only one mark on her wrist, left in view for the world to see. she understands why others hide theirs... but it's not something she ever saw a reason to do herself, and thus, from day one it's been out in the open.
so she's probably one of the best people for an experiment... if she was aware of it.
but that's what this afternoon is for, isn't it?
nene glances up when the door slides open from her little corner in the crafting room, bundled up warm in a makeshift nest. she's alone today, practicing her knitting quietly- from rushing to learn through december, to making hiyori's new scarf, she's had a lot of reason to try and work on it more- the gifts she'd given out were clumsy despite being well received, and she wants to do better. admittedly, there's a bit of a weird, heavy feeling in her stomach when she sees komaeda and ranger walking in, but she smiles despite it and sets the knitting needles down to sign out, "hello".
now, what could they want? )

the way i didnt have this tracked forgive ME
( aiko okane, someone that komeda doesn't know, but the female who created a painting that he brought to the dorm so other's could see. it was haruka's final words of she didn't want her painting to be covered in dust and seen by no one. that's the only kind thing he's done for her aside from placing her as the school's first stepping stone.
it's almost like he knows she hates the word, but he hardly cares because this is komaeda's way of speech. )
You can spread hope through the group with information you find, it'll be your own quest that you can take your time with, and choose the direction that comes from it.
( he stands up, dusting himself off because he does no good in being in one place, and he'll wander off to the left a little to look at what's on the tables and things like that. )
Maybe you'll compel them to get rid of their own tallies too, no matter how many they may have. The less tallies, the less you hurt, I've noticed that from one certain month where those were high tallies suffered. You could be given immunity, there's all sorts of theories, but... if you indulge, you can find the answers. Anyway, it's that talk of "if, if, if", why not act, do and try?
( he chews the inside of his cheeks, then is quick to bite his tongue so the taste of blood follows after. don't get irritable about the pace that people move, he invited her to this conversation so it's all about baby steps first. )
If you can't speak, then you move, it's an option that you have, and you can take advantage of. Actions speak louder than words, you know?
it's fine you're here now ties u down to this thread
He does nudge Komaeda a little now. It's not a hard push, but he offers a glance. If he pushes too hard, he's going to transform this from a discussion of options to an unappealing and pushy sales pitch. It's not their place to force the matter down someone's throat. More importantly, it's not conducive to an actual conversation on the matter. Right now, they only have options and hypotheticals, and that's as good of a stating point as any. ]
There should be others who know about this kid who had zero tallies though, right? It's not like you can't ask around. If there was something special about her, it should come up... Well, I guess it's probably a sore subject for anyone who was close.
[ Humans were so sensitive. It's such a nuisance. ]
What about the flipside? Can a person have two many tallies? I wanna say there's nobody that's gunning for that one though.
[ Probably. There were some real idiots in this place. It's not an effort to change the conversation, but rather to see it from a different angle. The majority would fall into a certain range, and zero was the floor, but was there a ceiling as well? ]
slides back into this, my bad, i was Dying-
but she still can't help but feel like something else is up.
frowning, nene crosses her arms and leans back. those with higher tallies did suffer, but they also got a bit more freedom sometimes- a risk versus reward type of thing? and aiko okane... ...
maybe nene didn't have any right to care about the dead girl. but they spoke. she hadn't wanted to die. she wanted to end this.
she deserved a better ending. but yogen doesn't grant that, and neither do the people who inhabit it. do they.
...
she doesn't have anything to say just yet, unfortunately. )
welcome back i hope u feel better!!
( of course komaeda would know something like that, it's the side of the tally spectrum he tends to be by when their moral code is like his. things happen, kills bring about hope, and standing idle does nothing but keep people waiting as they wait for someone to take the first move. his own tallies are hidden by a yellow scarf, but there's no red evident to say he's done anything— his first dance was with aiko okane, he hid it, gained it a day before his birthday, and called that a gift to himself; their hope being pushed forward. )
But... It's funny you say that, though.
( about gunning for it because komaeda was in a sense, he wanted to know what it was like. he doesn't connect his words to what ranger said, instead, moving on as he looks at nene with a smile. there's nothing aside from what's been said because there's no reason for komaeda to hide— what's said is said, he'd kill to kill, die for hope, he's an honest person and people wish for him to be a liar because he says such scary things.
he continues the conversation. )
Hm, how would they know if it was special. It's like how the natives believe we should be normal... but we're not, and that's a surprise to them. There are some odd abilities here I've seen.
( he looks at nene, blinking, smiling softly. )
But it's a gamble! We don't know if you'd get something special because you're at zero... unless somehow you can get a new mark that isn't a tally, but... that would pretty neat, but I'm sure the mechanics of this world doesn't work that way.
yes welcome back!! <3
He nods. Nothing that Komaeda says is wrong. He switches to the cat card. ]
Hm... That's true. I guess that's what would make it an experiment, and the effects might not be immediately obvious.
[ He flips to the ice cream card. They've been going on ahead with their conversation without really considering the third party here. Nene isn't stupid, but most humans aren't quite on Komaeda's level, much less that of Ranger who picks up on everything easily. He likewise turns his attention to her now. ]
What do you make of all of this, Nene?
[ Judging by his tone, he's asking generally. Aside from not shutting her out, it's good to get the opinion of someone with a different perspective than the pair of them. ]

those with high tallies were granted more freedom when we were still stuck in the building
but they also get harsher backlash from things i think
like when the noises at night started
it's like something can't decide what it wants from them
( a simple admission: are they being rewarded or punished? do the bold who take and take get to go further so they can report back? what's the origin of such a dynamic? or is it two separate forces? )
don't you think that's a little strange?

there was at one point where even being outside led to nausea and the need to pass out, an unfortunate turn of events considering going outside was staring to be their reward. though, he remembers something like that which he can comment on— )
Are you talking about in October? When certain students could hear sounds in the after hours...
( unfortunately for him, they didn't get anything as kind as that while he continues. )
I recall being sensitive to sunlight and loud noises, prone to vertigo upon standing or turning too quickly, and suffering harsh headaches through the day, it was like someone took an ice pick and jammed it into my skull... ow ow ow...
( thinking about it makes his head hurt a little, so he runs his prosthetic through his mess of a hair, but his fingers doesn't catch as he goes through the motion. )
At first I just passed it off as my everyday life, but others mentioned it as well.

It's like a little game that they play, a little experiment to see what people will choose. ]
It's strange. It doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of rhyme or reason.
[ If it's like a game, though, perhaps having a high number of tallies could be something of a shortcut? Either way, what Komaeda describes sounds fairly painful. Ranger himself must not have enough tallies to gain anything, which suggests that a decent number is needed. ]
Maye it's just to see what people will do. What happens if you incentivize racking up body counts, but then start adding in consequences to match it? When does it stop being worth it? That sorta thing... Or maybe they're just disappointed at how many have piled up? Not much of a school if everybody in it is dead.
[ It is pretty quiet now. ]
